The Georgia Muslim Voter Project (GAMVP) is a non-partisan, non-profit (501c3) organization created to increase political participation among Muslim Americans and educate our communities about the importance of voting. The mission of GAMVP is to educate Muslims in Georgia to register to vote, show up to the polls, and increase voter turnout in elections through voter education, registration drives, and grassroots organizing. We believe that in order to cultivate lifelong voters, we truly need to engage voters in every local, state, and national election. We envision an active, engaged American Muslim voting bloc, capable of upholding the equitable rights of American Muslims.

    Position Overview:

    GAMVP is seeking a motivated Community Organizing Intern to support nonpartisan voter engagement during the fall 2026 election cycle. Working alongside GAMVP’s organizing staff, the intern will receive training and hands-on experience in voter registration, voter education, community outreach, event organizing, relationship-building, and organizing data. No prior political or organizing experience is required. This is a learning-focused position that includes regular supervision, feedback, and mentorship.

    What You’ll Learn:

    • The fundamentals of nonpartisan voter registration, education, and engagement

    • Community outreach and relationship-building strategies

    • How to plan and support civic-engagement events

    • How organizing teams track outreach, participation, and campaign progress

    • How a statewide civic-engagement organization develops and implements programs and campaigns

    • Professional development through regular guidance, feedback, and mentorship from GAMVP staff

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist in planning and executing events, both virtual and in-person including logistics and on-site support. 

    • Represent GAMVP professionally and respectfully within the community

    • Assist with researching, updating, formatting, and distributing voter education and community outreach materials under staff guidance and review.

    • Support staff outreach and follow-up with mosques, Islamic centers, community organizations, student groups, and other partners to strengthen relationships and expand GAMVP’s reach.

    • Support GAMVP’s nonpartisan voter registration, voter education, and get-out-the-vote efforts, including tabling, phone banking, text banking, canvassing, and voter follow-up, after completing required training.

    • Take detailed notes at meetings and produce clear final notes for dissemination with quick turn-around.

    • Support in collection of attendee details, track outreach numbers, and update digital databases and spreadsheets to measure the success of community programs and campaigns.

    Desired Skills, Abilities, and Experiences:

    • Current students, recent graduates, and early-career applicants interested in civic engagement, community organizing, nonprofit work, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

    • Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States

    • Deep, authentic connections within Georgia’s Muslim or other underserved communities

    • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage details, manage assignments with guidance, communicate proactively, and follow through reliably.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to attend in-person events in the metro Atlanta area, including occasional evening and weekend activities. Approved work-related travel will be reimbursed.

    • Reliable access to a phone and/or internet

    • Personally committed to advancing GAMVP’s values, mission, and programs

    • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and willingness to learn additional organizing and data tools

    Position Type and Salary:

    The Community Organizing Intern is a temporary, part-time, nonexempt position based in Atlanta, Georgia, with a hybrid schedule and regular in-person community engagement. The position is expected to run from October 1st through December 18th for approximately 10–15 hours per week and pays $16 per hour. Some evening and weekend availability may be required. Approved work-related travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with GAMVP policy. The intern will report to Advocacy and Youth Organizer and participate in regular supervision, feedback, and check-ins.
