GAMVP Statement on the Attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego
We are heartbroken and outraged by the deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego.
Our prayers are with the victims, their families, the mosque community, the students and staff who were present, and everyone carrying the trauma of this horrifying act of violence. No one should ever have to fear for their life while entering a mosque, sending their child to an Islamic school, or gathering in a place of worship.
This attack is being investigated as a hate crime, and it comes at a time when Muslim communities across the country are already carrying deep grief, fear, and concern. For Georgia Muslims, this fear is not distant. We hear it in our communities, in our mosques, in our families, and in the questions people ask when they wonder whether it is safe to gather, pray, organize, or simply be visibly Muslim.
We must be clear: anti-Muslim hate, political scapegoating, and dehumanizing rhetoric create real danger for our communities. Our safety is connected to the health of our democracy, to the protection of our civil rights, and to the basic promise that every person should be able to worship, vote, speak, gather, and live with dignity.
As Georgia Muslims, we stand with the Islamic Center of San Diego and with Muslim communities everywhere. We will continue building civic power rooted in care, solidarity, and the belief that our communities deserve safety, belonging, and freedom.
May Allah grant the victims the highest place in Jannah, bring comfort to their families, and protect our communities from harm.
